Channels Setup

A step by step guide to setting up your Lumiere Channel

Updated over a month ago

Create a new channel

To create a new channel:

  1. Navigate to the folder in your team's documents where you want your channel to exist

  2. Click the purple 'Add New' button in the top-right corner

  3. In the drop-down menu, select 'Create Channel'

Add or Upload Videos to your channel

When adding videos to your channel, you have the option to copy existing videos you have in your Lumiere team to your channel or to upload new content

a. Copy Existing Videos

To copy existing videos from your Lumiere team to your new channel:

  1. Start by clicking 'Add Section' if one does not already exist

  2. Click the Black 'Copy Existing Videos' button

  3. Use the pop-up navigation menu to find and select the videos you want to copy from your existing files

  4. Click 'Add'

Copying an existing video carries over that video's existing setup (questions, reactions, etc.) but will not carry over any collected data.

b. Upload New Videos

  1. Start by clicking 'Add Section' if one does not already exist

  2. Click the Purple 'Upload New Videos' button

  3. Use the pop-up navigation menu to find and select the files from your documents that you want to upload

New videos will automatically have your channel's default reaction type applied; however, you can adjust each video to have a different reaction type. For more information, see our article on 'Channel Reactions'.

Organize Your Content

Sections

In a Lumiere channel, you can create sections to organize your videos by like-content, or have one section to house all of your videos.

Creating New Sections

To create new sections, click the 'Add New Section' button below the last section in your channel, or hit the three dots ... icon and click 'Add Section Above' or 'Add Section Below' from the drop-down menu.

Moving Sections

Select the three dots ... icon and click 'Move Up' or 'Move Down' from the drop-down menu.

Sections will appear to viewers in the order you have them unless you toggle on Shuffle Sections. To shuffle your sections:

  1. Navigate to the left side panel, under the Channel Settings tab

  2. Near the bottom, toggle on 'Shuffle Sections'

  3. Sections will now appear to viewers in random order

Videos

Videos within sections can appear either in the order you place them or in a random order. To adjust the order of videos:

  1. Drag and drop videos within sections or between sections into the order you desire them to appear to viewers when they visit your channel

To shuffle the videos within sections:

  1. Open the pop-up menu located in the top right corner of your section

  2. Within 'Sort by' select 'Random'

Create a Welcome Message (optional)

Channels offer the option to display a Welcome Message—a customizable pop-up that appears when viewers first enter the Channel. This is an opportunity to set the tone, provide study instructions, or offer context about the content they are about to view. Whether it’s telling participants to “watch as many videos as you like” or guiding them toward specific tasks, the Welcome Message ensures clarity and consistency in the viewer experience.

To add a welcome message for your channel viewers:

  1. Navigate to the left side panel under the Channel Settings tab

  2. Toggle on 'Welcome message'

  3. Click 'Edit Message'

  4. In the pop-up window, add a title and description to your welcome message

  5. Click 'Save'

Set your Viewer Goals (optional)

With Viewer Goals, you can define how much content participants must engage with before proceeding with or concluding their survey. This could be a specific number of videos (e.g., “watch at least 3 videos”), a minimum total watch time (e.g., “watch at least 8 minutes of content”), or a combination of both.

  1. Navigate to the left side panel under the Channel Settings tab

  2. Locate the 'Viewer Goal' section

  3. Click 'Add Goal' and select 'Minimum Watch Time' or 'Videos Watched'

  4. Adjust the minimum number of videos or minutes of content viewers must watch to achieve their viewing goal

  5. Set a Goal Achieved Message (optional) that will appear to viewers once they meet their goal

Under the Viewer Goal section, you can also control if viewers can continue watching after achieving their goal and if their goal progress will be displayed on the channel as they navigate.

Set up Viewer Reactions and Prompted Questions

Add a reaction type to your channel that applies to each video, or set a different reaction type for each video, and add prompted questions to your videos.

For more information on setting up reactions in your channel, see our article here.

Customization (optional)

Lumiere Channels are fully customizable to match your brand or the look and feel of popular streaming services. Key customization options include:

  • Custom/Skinned Channels: Apply your own banners, logos, colors, and platform-inspired layouts.

  • Custom Icons: Adjust thumbnail size, shape, and styling for a polished, on-brand appearance.
