Channels Setup

A step by step guide to setting up your Lumiere Channel

Create a new channel

To create a new channel:

  1. Navigate to the folder in your team's documents where you want your channel to exist

  2. Click the purple Add New button in the top-right corner

  3. In the drop-down menu, select Create Channel

Add or Upload Videos to your channel

When adding videos to your channel, you have the option to copy existing videos you have in your Lumiere team to your channel or to upload new content

Copy Existing Videos

To copy existing videos from your Lumiere team to your new channel:

  1. Click Add Section if one doesn't already exist.

  2. Click the black Copy Existing Videos button.

  3. Use the pop-up navigation menu to find and select the videos you want to copy.

  4. Click Add.

Heads up: copying a video carries over its existing setup (questions, reactions, etc.), but it won't carry over any collected data.

Upload New Videos

  1. Click Add Section if one doesn't already exist.

  2. Click the purple Upload New Videos button.

  3. Use the pop-up navigation menu to find and select the files you want to upload.

New videos will automatically take on your channel's default reaction type, but you can adjust each one individually. For more, see our article on Channel Reactions.

Organize Your Content

Sections

In a Lumiere channel, you can create sections to organize your videos by like-content, or have one section to house all of your videos.

Creating New Sections

To create a new section, either:

  • Click the Add New Section button below your last section

  • Click the ... icon on an existing section and select Add Section Above or Add Section Below

Moving Sections

To move a section, click the ... icon and select Move Up or Move Down.

Sections will appear to viewers in the order you set, unless you turn on Shuffle Sections. To shuffle:

  1. Open the left-side panel under the Channel Settings tab.

  2. Near the bottom, toggle on Shuffle Sections.

Sections will now appear in random order to viewers.

Videos

Videos within sections can appear in the order you place them, or in random order.

To set your video order: drag and drop videos within or between sections to arrange them how you want them to appear.

To shuffle videos within a section:

  1. Open the pop-up menu in the top-right corner of the section.

  2. Under Sort by, select Random.

Create a Welcome Message (optional)

Channels include the option to display a Welcome Message β€” a customizable pop-up that appears the first time viewers enter your channel. It's a great way to set the tone, provide study instructions, or give context about the content ahead. Whether you're telling participants to "watch as many videos as you like" or guiding them toward specific tasks, a Welcome Message keeps the experience clear and consistent.

To add a welcome message:

  1. Open the left-side panel under the Channel Settings tab.

  2. Toggle on Welcome Message.

  3. Click Edit Message.

  4. In the pop-up, add a title and description.

  5. Click Save.

Set your Viewer Goals (optional)

Viewer Goals let you define how much content participants need to engage with before they can move on or wrap up your study. A goal can be:

  • A specific number of videos (e.g., "watch at least 3 videos")

  • A minimum total watch time (e.g., "watch at least 8 minutes of content")

  • A combination of both

To set a viewer goal:

  1. Open the left-side panel under the Channel Settings tab.

  2. Find the Viewer Goal section.

  3. Click Add Goal and select Minimum Watch Time or Videos Watched.

  4. Set the minimum number of videos or minutes viewers need to hit.

  5. Add a Goal Achieved Message (optional) that appears once viewers meet the goal.

You can also use the Viewer Goal section to control whether viewers can keep watching after hitting their goal, and whether their progress shows up on the channel as they navigate.

Set up Viewer Reactions and Prompted Questions

Add a reaction type to your channel that applies to each video, or set a different reaction type for each video, and add prompted questions to your videos.

Customization (optional)

Lumiere Channels are fully customizable β€” you can match your brand or mimic the look and feel of popular streaming services. Key options include:

  • Custom/Skinned Channels: Apply your own banners, logos, colors, and platform-inspired layouts.

  • Custom Icons: Adjust thumbnail size, shape, and styling for a polished, on-brand look.

  • Branded Interface: Create a seamless, immersive environment that feels native to your content strategy.
