Creating and Using Scenes

Scenes break down your content into smaller sections so you can compare sections of your video.

Introduction

Scenes let you divide your video into smaller segments for deeper analysis. They help you spot which parts of your video are connecting with your audience, which scenes have the most impact, and which moments are pulling the strongest reactions.

Once your video is segmented, you can use each scene as a filter for your reaction metrics. That makes it easy to:

  • Pinpoint the moments that resonate most with viewers

  • Identify trends and patterns across scenes

  • Find the highlights that drive overall engagement

  • Make informed decisions about content, editing, and optimization

Scene Timing

Scenes work like chapters in a book β€” one starts where the last one ends. When you upload a video to Lumiere, a default scene called Scene 1 is automatically created starting at 0:00. It runs until the start time of the next scene you add.

Note: The default scene created at the beginning of your video by cannot be deleted

The timestamp above a scene card shows the start time of that scene (and the end time of the one before it). So if Scene 2 begins at 0:33, that's also where Scene 1 ends.

Creating Scenes

You can create scenes in two ways: add them manually using timestamps, or accept Lumiere's AI-generated suggestions.

To manually add scenes:

  1. Go to Video Setup.

  2. On the video timeline, navigate to the point where you want Scene 1 to end and Scene 2 to begin.

  3. Click the + next to Scenes below the video player.

  4. A new scene will be created at that timestamp, running until the next scene starts (or until the end of the video).

AI Suggestions

Lumiere will also suggest scene breaks based on changes in your video's imagery and script.

To view and accept suggestions:

  1. Go to Video Setup.

  2. On the right side of the video player, toggle on Show Suggestions.

  3. Click any suggested scene card to add it to your list of scenes.

Scene Editing

Adjusting Scene Timing

There are three ways to change when a scene starts or ends:

  • Drag the break between two scenes on the video timeline.

  • Edit the timestamp above the scene card directly.

  • Use Frame by Frame navigation for precise, micro-level adjustments.

Keep in mind:

Adjusting the start time of a scene will affect the end time of the previous scene

Adjusting the end time of a scene will affect the start time of the subsequent scene

Edit Scene Title

To edit the title of a scene

  1. Enter Setup Mode.

  2. Click the title of the scene you want to rename.

  3. Type the new title.
